Although my brother and I share a love for the outdoors, our passions and interests have differed over the years. Lucas is a serial hobbyist while I am a mildly obsessive creative.
We are eight years apart and grew up in a fairly standard suburban neighborhood. Our family went on an annual camping trip but by no means do we come from a long line of hunters or fisherman. The loss of our father at the early age of 41 left a void for the both of us. It felt like time stopped and our life was put on hold.
How do you make up for all those lost years of experience, tradition, and knowledge? We have found it in people. Being present when others speak, listening, and absorbing the stories that people share runs deeper than any family lineage. When this collective knowledge base is combined, hundreds of years of rich heritage can be gained in a short period of time.
Five years ago my brother and I bonded during a backpacking trip to West Virginia’s Seneca Creek. Ever since that trip, the creative in me started building a narrative around our story.
Fast forward a little ways and Coeli joins the picture. Her story was similar, a girl that grew up in city limits of St. Louis, Missouri and knew little about the outdoors other than how to survive the muggy Missouri summers by exploring caves and spending as much time as possible in the Arcadia valley and Ozark mountains.
City life meant a few escapes to the coast for surfing and SUP, but nothing that satiated her sense of adventure.
After finishing her masters and spending five years in advertising, Coeli sought balance from her hectic work life in advertising, and decided to move to the Blue Ridge Mountains. It was here she fell head over heels in love with fly fishing, hiking, and sailing. Now living in a city again, she escapes to central Pennsylvania where she spends every spare moment fishing and exploring the Appalachian mountains.
Today, we three tell the story of becoming an outdoorsman in the modern world.
Our mission is to provide online inspiration to go offline and help people experience the joy that comes with living a more truthful existence outside office walls.ld. We all built our own outdoor heritage through the exploration of what nature has to offer outside our urban upbringings.
Welcome to the journey, we’re glad to have you with us!
