Take a Closer Look Inside the World’s Oldest Barber Shop

May 3, 2016 By Lucas Comanici

In the last decade you have probably noticed the resurgence of the traditional barber shop. When looking into the history of this notable craft you are almost certain to come across Truefitt & Hill.

Truefitt & Hill

In 2014 the Guinness book of world records recognized Truefitt & Hill as the oldest barber shop in the world. Truefitt was established in 1805 by William Francis Truefitt. Truefitt started off making high quality wigs worn by King George the III and others of nobility.  The barber shop was first established in London and soon became the standard in men’s grooming. Truefitt & Hill has had the honor of serving nine consecutive monarchs of Great Britain, and has held numerous royal warrants.

The Best Grooming Products in the World

Aside from having some of the best barber shops in the world, Truefitt & Hill has also developed some of the best toiletry products. With over 210 years of experience Truefitt & Hill produces everything that the modern man needs to stay well groomed.

A Clientele to be Rivaled

Opening up the appointment book at Truefitt & Hill is like stepping into a history book. Anyone who was somebody went to Truefitt & Hill. Winston Churchill, Charles Dickens, John Wayne, Frank Sinatra….. you get the idea.

“At Mr. Truefitt’s, the excellent hairdresser’s, they are learning French to beguile the time.” – Charles Dickens

Today with over 27 locations Truefitt & Hill hasn’t skipped a beat. They are still one of the top barber shops and producers of men’s grooming products. If you live in the USA and are anywhere near Chicago, give them a call and set up an appointment for a cut and traditional straight razor wet shave.  I doubt you will be disappointed. Truefitt & Hill

Very interesting read. It’s very neat to get an inside look at the history of a company that offered services to such elite members of society. Furthermore, for a barber shop to be around for 210 years is mind blowing to me.
