Our Story

October 1, 2017 By Nicholas Comanici

Although my brother and I share a love for the outdoors, our passions and interests have differed over the years. Lucas is a serial hobbyist while I am a mildly obsessive creative.

We are eight years apart and grew up in a fairly standard suburban neighborhood. Our family went on an annual camping trip but by no means do we come from a long line of hunters or fisherman. The loss of our father at the early age of 41 left a void for the both of us. It felt like time stopped and our life was put on hold.

How do you make up for all those lost years of experience, tradition, and knowledge? We have found it in people. Being present when others speak, listening, and absorbing the stories that people share runs deeper than any family lineage. When this collective knowledge base is combined, hundreds of years of rich heritage can be gained in a short period of time.

Five years ago my brother and I bonded during a backpacking trip to West Virginia’s Seneca Creek. Ever since that trip, the creative in me started building a narrative around our story.

Coeli atop Roan Mountain in Tennessee

Fast forward a little ways and Coeli joins the picture. Her story was similar, a girl that grew up in St. Louis and knew little about the outdoors other than tips to survive the muggy, hot Missouri summers. A lover of the Arcadia Valley and Ozarks in southern Missouri, she loved exploring new places.

Looking for balance in her hectic life in advertising, she left her house, job, and life in St. Louis to go explore the Blue Ridge mountains. Quickly she fell in love with the Appalachian mountain range, and enjoyed the waterfalls, lakes, and rivers of northeast Tennessee through hiking, fly fishing, and sailing. Today you’ll find her escaping to central Pennsylvania on her weekends to chase fin.

Today, we three tell the story of becoming an outdoorsman in the modern world. We all built our own outdoor heritage through the exploration of what nature has to offer outside our urban upbringings.

Our mission is to provide online inspiration to go offline and help people experience the joy that comes with living a more truthful existence outside office walls.

Welcome to the journey, we’re glad to have you with us!
