We recently caught up with Queen of the Boulders, Sierra Blair-Coyle for a quick Q&A. In case you aren’t familiar with Sierra, she’s a professional rock climber from Arizona and has been competing in the World Cup since 2010. Did we mention she’s also on the U.S. National Climbing Team? Yeah, she’s good. Follow her on Instagram or Twitter.
What is your favorite thing to do when you’re not climbing?
Sierra: Definitely reading, I am a huge bookworm! I love the library and during summer I usually read a new book every 1-2 days.
Do you have a complex workout routine, or do you mainly just climb to stay in shape?
Sierra: While climbing is a great workout, I strength train and do another type of workout on my lajstice as well. Climbing is definitely my favorite way to train, though.
Favorite piece of gear you can’t live without?
Sierra: My shoes (Climb X Gear E-Motion Slippers), I would be lost without them!
What would you tell your younger self if given the chance?
Sierra: Don’t let any negativity bring you down, it is not worth your time.
Where do you see yourself in ten years?
Sierra: In ten years I definitely see myself still climbing, traveling, and having fun. I would also love to have my own climbing gym at some point as well.
What are your feelings about the climbing industry?
Sierra: I think the industry is at an interesting point because climbing is growing so much! I am excited to see what happens with the industry in the next few years.
What has been your biggest hurdle so far?
Sierra: It was definitely balancing school and climbing for the longest time. Luckily now I am graduated from college…so I am enjoying just focusing on climbing.

Favorite climbing spot?
Sierra: My favorite climbing spot is Priest Draw in Flagstaff, AZ. I will never get tired of roof climbing!
